At the start of 2026, ZWO expanded its Seestar smart telescope line with the release of the Seestar S30 Pro.

But how does it compare to the original Seestar S30 and S50, and the Dwarf 3 and Dwarf Mini?

In this guide, we break down everything you need to know. Read on, or watch the video below:

What’s New with the Seestar S30 Pro?

Following the success of the S50 (2023) and the original S30 (2024), the S30 Pro aims to bridge the gap between entry-level accessibility and high-performance imaging.

While the S30 Pro retains the compact 30mm aperture of the original model, it introduces several “Pro” level upgrades:

Seestar S30 Pro vs Dwarf 3 & Dwarf Mini

Dwarflab offers two strong competitors: the ultra-portable Dwarf Mini and the high-performance Dwarf 3.

S30 Pro vs. Dwarf 3 (The Main Rivals)

The Dwarf 3 is the S30 Pro’s closest competitor, but they appeal to different types of users:

S30 Pro vs. Dwarf Mini

The Dwarf Mini is almost identical in core specs to the original Seestar S30 (30mm aperture, 2MP camera).

The S30 Pro outperforms the Mini in almost every category except for portability and price.

If you are a casual traveler on a tight budget, the Mini is a great entry point; if you want serious images, the S30 Pro may be a step up.

Final Thoughts & Buying Guide

The Seestar S30 Pro is arguably the most versatile budget smart telescope of 2026.

While it doesn’t replace the S50’s light-gathering power or the Dwarf 3’s resolution on small targets, it offers the most “complete” package for hobbyists.

Pro Tip: If you plan on doing long-exposure astrophotography, factor in the cost of a fluid head tripod. The basic tripods included with these units are great for Alt-Az mode but usually require an upgrade for successful Equatorial (EQ) Mode tracking.
